The Rolls Royce Phantom Bespoke Chicane Coupe – with a touch of Goodwood
When you get to the rarefied level of the Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe – starting point £253,000 – it seems almost odd to have a ‘Special Edition’ car with extra goodies bolted on. But that, in essence, is what the Rolls Royce Phantom Bespoke Chicane Coupe is, although it’s more a push for the abilities of Rolls Royce bespoke design division than anything else. Commissioned by Rolls Royce in Dubai, the Bespoke Chicane Coupe comes in an appealing shade of Gunmetal Grey with matt black highlights, wheels painted to match (usually an after-market happening) with lashings of red leather, carbon fibre and piano black trim on the inside with a starlight roof lining.
Peugeot drivers celebrate their 1-2 at Le Mans
The winning Peugeot (#9) was driven by Alexander Wurz, David Brabham and Marc Gene, whilst second place was taken by Sébastien Bourdais, Franck Montagny and Stéphane Sarrazinin in car #8, just one lap behind, and five laps in front of Audi’s #1 car driven by Allan McNish, Rinaldo Capello and Tom Kristensen. In fact, the Audi car #1 (the other Audi entries had fallen by the wayside) finished just one lap ahead of Lola Aston Martin’s #007 car. The usual racing excuses were out in full, with Audi claiming that the cancellation of the traditional testing day this year meant they were unable to set up the R15 TDI properly in time for the race (Peugeot seemed to manage to get the 908s ready!).
Volvo will showcase its latest plug-in hybrid technology in the new 2012 XC60 Plug-in Hybrid concept car at next week's Detroit auto show. The Swedes have been developing a range of plug-in hybrid cars, using both petrol and diesel. The hybridised V60 which goes on sale in Europe later in 2012 uses diesel, whereas the new SUV drinks from the green pump.
